UK Flour Millers is the representative organisation for the flour milling industry in Great Britain and Ireland, and at the heart of the food sector. Flour millers run efficient businesses providing an ingredient found in 30% of supermarket foods and accounting for around 20% of dietary energy and a similar proportion of key nutrients such as protein, fibre and many minerals and vitamins.

The Events Manager position is new and critical to the coordination of events both for the members of UK Flour Millers and (for both the association and third parties) within the historic house, 21 Arlington Street. 2028 marks the association’s 150-year celebrations, with an associated event programme; and potentially 2030 will be the year in which we host the bi-annual European Flour Millers convention.

The Events Manager will report to the chief executive, have line management responsibility for the receptionist, and work closely with the wider team, particularly the communications manager and admin assistant.

  • Proven experience in an events, exhibitions and/or marketing role
  • Strong project management skills, including delivery of large in-person events with multiple stakeholders
  • Dogged and determined to see events and initiatives to their conclusion
  • Flexible in working as part of a small trade association

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering key events including the annual reception and the bi-annual convention, working with various suppliers from caterers to AV teams, plus speakers and sponsors.
  • Principal liaison with UK Flour Millers’ president, covering events programme and arranging Convention in line with their priorities.
  • Lead for activities of the strategically important Development Group, convening their meetings, planning and delivering their programme.
  • Cover for website updates, as needed.
  • Supporting the smooth running of the association, providing essential admin support and office management, potentially including employment contracts.
  • Ensuring high quality events which at least break even, ideally making a financial return to the association.
  • Liaising with members and associates to ensure engagement and satisfaction with association events and other activities.

This is a part-time post. Our office is in central London; as it is a part-time role, expect to have a mix of locations with a bias towards the office, alongside venue visits, event delivery; an element of homeworking will be available as needed, in line with business needs. There will be periodic requirements for out of hours working to support event delivery.
