We are seeking a senior and established markets expert to join our team and be a key lead on matters largely pertaining to primary markets and corporate finance (M&A) practice and regulation.
The portfolio may evolve to reflect member and business priorities and the post-holder’s experience.
As such, the post holder will also be expected to cover policy areas that cut across primary and secondary markets and may be required to assist with secondary markets/post trade policy items if the need arises.
Overall, the role is suitable for candidates who enjoy working flexibly within a team, who have an aptitude for policy work, and who have a keen desire to learn and strengthen their technical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Adaptability: This is a dynamic area, so adaptability will be needed to ensure alignment with evolving member priorities.
However, it is currently envisaged that for at least the first 12 months of this role the primary tasks of the postholder will include the below areas.
- Relationship management: Develop and maintain strong and deep relationships with our members and associate members, prospective members/associate members and key stakeholders such as HM Treasury, the FCA, the CMA and the Cabinet Office.
- Regulatory reform: Developing policy positions and leading key committees and working groups on primary markets and corporate finance and related issues.
This could include but is not limited to the FCA’s Handbook chapters and Knowledge Base guidance relating to company listings, public offers and disclosure, the CMA’s merger control regime, the new PISCES regime, the Cabinet Office’s National Security and Investment Act and the Takeover Code.
The post holder will be expected to be curious about policy areas which intersect with primary markets and corporate finance, for example pensions, private markets and retail investment and to engage on these, if requested.
- Consultations: Leading consultation responses in relation to new policy, regulatory guidance, new legislation and market practice, as required.
This will include both analysis and drafting.
- Horizon scanning: map out and consider the longer-term strategic issues and opportunities facing UK primary markets and M&A landscape to deliver thought leadership and other leading strategic initiatives.
- Commerciality: a commercial mindset is required.
The post holder is expected to identify commercial opportunities on primary market and corporate finance topics e. g. webinars, training, conferences, sponsorship, the utilisation of data.
