This is a substantive policy role for someone who enjoys getting to grips with complex issues and turning analysis into clear, practical outcomes. You will manage a varied and evolving portfolio of capital-markets and wholesale-policy work, develop credible positions with members and represent UK Finance with government, regulators and other stakeholders.
The role suits a strong learner and thoughtful problem-solver who is comfortable taking ownership, working with ambiguity and building consensus.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead policy workstreams from initial research and member engagement through to agreed positions, consultation responses and advocacy.
- Confidence managing relationships and discussions with senior stakeholders, and in running effective member committees and working groups, including where views differ, and helping groups build consensus around practical outcomes.
- Build trusted relationships with members, HM Treasury, regulators, public bodies and trade associations, and represent UK Finance confidently externally.
- Analyse legislative, regulatory and market developments at pace, identifying what matters for members and recommending practical responses.
- Produce concise, high-quality consultation responses, briefings, policy papers, presentations, speaking notes and member communications for specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Contribute to thought leadership and horizon scanning on the future of UK capital markets, including market modernisation and new technology.
- Work closely with colleagues on cross-cutting priorities and contribute flexibly as the team’s portfolio evolves.
What are we looking for
- A keen interest in capital markets and the policy and regulatory questions shaping their future. Existing technical knowledge is valuable, but the ability and appetite to learn quickly are equally important.
- Exceptional ability to process substantial volumes of information, identify what matters and swiftly produce polished, professional documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with close attention to accuracy, structure and audience.
- Confidence managing relationships and discussions with senior stakeholders, including where views differ.

- Relevant experience in financial services, public policy, regulation, government, a trade association, consultancy, law or a comparable environment.
- Strong analytical capability and judgement, including the confidence to form a view on complex or unfamiliar issues.
- Sound organisation and judgement, with the ability to take ownership, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadline.
- A collaborative, pragmatic approach and confidence using Word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications.
