At UKEF, our Digital and Data division unites delivery, data, and user‑centred design professionals to create services that truly meet user needs. Working in agile, multi‑disciplinary teams, we deliver digital products that are intuitive, accessible, and efficient—supporting exporters, lending partners, and internal users alike. We’re now looking for a Lead Interaction Designer to shape how users experience our services.

In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the interaction design function across the organisation, ensuring our services are:

  • Accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or access needs
  • Intuitive for new users and those with low digital confidence
  • Aligned with the Government Service Standard

You’ll split your time between embedding in service teams and developing design standards and practices across UKEF.

As a Lead Interaction Designer, you will:

  • Oversee the design of all digital touchpoints, ensuring alignment with best practices and design systems
  • Define and steer interaction design strategies for new and existing services
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to develop and iterate design concepts
  • Create working prototypes for user testing
  • Champion accessibility, user‑centred design, and assisted digital approaches
  • Assure the quality of interaction design across complex services
  • Interpret and apply evidence‑based research to design decisions
  • Represent UKEF at internal and cross‑government service assessments
  • Manage and support design contractors, fostering a strong internal UCD community

What We’re Looking For

You’re an expert practitioner who can work independently, mentor others, and influence design direction across the organisation. You bring a deep understanding of interaction design, accessibility, and user needs, and you’re passionate about creating services that work for everyone.
