Operating from 6 UK bases, UK Event Medical Services is recognised as one of the UK’s leading providers of independent ambulance services and healthcare logistics. We provide an urgent response solution for the transportation of patients being detained under the Mental Health Act or Mental Capacity Act, including individuals with a range of mental health/behavioural disorders.

The Job requires a special person to undertake a wide variety of duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet a patient who may be reluctant to travel using your powers of persuasion to encourage engagement.
  • Deescalate a situation when a patient shows signs of agitation.
  • Reassure a confused patient who requires understanding.
  • Instil confidence in a patient who may be frightened.
  • Treat all patients with dignity and respect any cultural and/or religious beliefs.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including team members, medical professionals and the general public.
  • React quickly to potentially dangerous situations where health and safety may be compromised.
  • Work within the strict parameters of the law regarding the movement of mentally ill individuals.

What You Will Do:

  • Maintain a high standard of vehicle and equipment serviceability, cleanliness and permanent readiness.
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks.
  • Drive allocated vehicles in non-emergency conditions.
  • Provide a transfer that is both a smooth and comfortable experience for patients.
  • Use a handheld device/tablet to update the control centre regarding your patient’s journey.

About You:

  • Physical ability, this post is physically demanding. You must be able to lift together with a colleague a minimum of c 11 stone / 70kgs.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive situations professionally, assertively and tactfully.
  • The ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
  • You will have worked with the public in a role that required communicating clearly in a style and tone that engages your audience.

Applicants Must Be:

  • Have a full clean driving licence.
  • Flexible regarding working hours, prepared to work unsociable hours, weekends, and public holidays and throughout the night.

This position is eligible for an enhanced DBS check.
