Hours - Open shifts available from up to 40+ hours per week; typical shifts are 4 days on, 4 days off. Other hours and patterns can be accommodated. The business operates 24/7, 365 days a year.

Initially, a zero-hours contract is offered to successful applicants. Note: This is not a training role; applicants must hold appropriate and relevant qualifications for this role.

Due to our continued growth, we seek to recruit Emergency and Urgent Care Assistants.

The job

Working in partnership with the NHS and other care providers, our teams of trained, highly skilled Emergency Care Assistants/Urgent Care Assistants (ECA/UCA) provide high-quality care in response to various situations, including medical/trauma emergencies, inter-hospital transfers, and hospital admissions. ECAs work as part of a dedicated team alongside Ambulance Care Assistants, Urgent Care Assistants, and qualified clinicians to deliver potentially life-saving care and transportation to hospitals.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive UKEMS vehicles under emergency, urgent, and normal driving conditions.
  • Complete patient report forms, both electronic and paper-based; additional paperwork may include police, coroner, and solicitor statements.
  • Ensure the safe transfer of patients using appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques.
  • Perform dynamic risk assessments at incident scenes or to support colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, colleagues, emergency services, and healthcare professionals.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment checks, report faults, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Assist in managing medical supplies and clinical waste disposal.
  • Maintain timely communication with the operations centre.
  • Respond as a first responder within the scope of practice (FREC4) when necessary.

About you

Our Ambulance Technicians typically have experience working for a health trust or independent ambulance service. You must hold one of the following qualifications for at least 2 years:

  • FREC 5 with SALM
  • Level 4 Associate Ambulance Practitioner
  • IHCD Technician

And you must hold:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Driving

Additional requirements include:

  • Knowledge of current operational procedures and clinical practices, plus awareness of health & safety legislation.
  • Personal attributes such as reliability, conscientiousness, enthusiasm, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.
  • Calm and professional interpersonal skills.
  • A full, UK current driving license (a clean license preferred). All license enforcements must be declared on application.

This role is physically demanding; you must be able to lift approximately 11 stone/70 kg with a colleague.
