Operating from 7 UK bases, UK Event Medical Services is recognised as one of the UK’s leading providers of independent ambulance services and healthcare logistics. Offering a full range of services (largely to the NHS) including Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services, High Dependency Patient Transfers (Urgent Care) and Secure Patient Transport, additionally we provide a Medical Repatriation Service.
The Operations Assistant Team Leader is primarily responsible for assisting the Team Leader where required in the day-to-day delivery of service provision, ensuring all operational and compliance targets are met. Responsibilities include:
- Providing support for operational and clinical staff.
- Reporting daily activity to the UKEMS’s management.
- Ensuring patient safety and reduction in harm to patients, self, colleagues and others by assessing risks and adopting safe working practices.
- Assisting in accurate communication at all times between all stakeholders and operational staff working at the site.
- Contributing to the safe, timely and effective running of the daily operation of the division and vehicle fleet.
- Covering road shifts within your scope of practice.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Communicating with colleagues including clinical staff, the training team, team leaders at other locations and the control team.
- Ensuring crews are booked within the shift start time requirements, minimising any unnecessary down times throughout the shift.
- Provision of staff rotas plus the reporting of patient/journey details.
- Conducting daily and weekly vehicle checks, keeping accurate records and reporting any discrepancies.
- Performing random spot checks across the fleet with particular regard to internal and external cleanliness of the vehicle, health and safety equipment and necessary documents.
- Ensuring colleagues on the road understand their roles and are working within the clinical governance strategy, promoting excellence in clinical practice in accordance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and company guidelines.
- Assisting Team Leader in maintaining audit schedules.
- Promoting a supportive, fair and open culture that encourages and enables the site workforce to meet required performance standards.
- Meeting Health and Safety legislation and moving towards an environment where health and safety considerations are firmly embedded in the planning and decision-making processes and the culture of UKEMS.
- Promoting, monitoring and maintaining best practice in Infection Control management.
- Promoting and ensuring compliance with equality and diversity legislation, developing active commitment to the need to ensure equality of opportunity and the benefits of diversity.
- Participating in UKEMS performance appraisal system (self and your team) to undertake any identified training and development related to the post.

About You
- Your experience as assistant team leader will ideally have been obtained in a clinical or similar environment.
- Have vision - recommending improvements to all aspects of our service.
- Be an effective communicator having the ability to engage with a wide audience of personnel.
- The ability to work under pressure/towards deadlines.
- You will be productive working on your own initiative and as part of a busy team.
- Outstanding organisational skills; our business relies on efficiency, process and procedure.
- IT skills - including Word and Excel.
- Solutions focused; your ability to negotiate and be tactful and diplomatic will prove essential when managing challenging situations.
- Flexible and adaptable in your approach; you will join a team of like-minded individuals each striving to provide an outstanding service to all we engage with.
- A full clean driving licence is required.
- Ideally qualified to FREC 4 Level or above.
- This post is physically demanding. You must be able to lift (together with a colleague) a minimum of c 11 stone/70kgs.
