Emergency Care Assistant / Urgent Care Assistant

Job Description:

  • Company pension scheme
  • Holidays: 28 days per year (pro rata)
  • Hours: Open shifts available from up to 40+ hours per week; typical shifts are 4 days on, 4 days off, but other hours and patterns can be accommodated. The business operates 24/7, 365 days per year.
  • Start date: End of June (actual date TBC)
  • Initially, a zero-hours contract is offered to successful applicants.

Note: This is not a training role. Applicants must hold appropriate and relevant qualifications for this role.

We offer services largely to the NHS, including Non-Emergency Patient Transport, High Dependency Patient Transfers (Urgent Care), and Secure Patient Transport. Due to continued growth, we seek to recruit Emergency and Urgent Care Assistants.

The job:

Working in partnership with the NHS and other care providers, our teams of trained, highly skilled Emergency Care Assistants/Urgent Care Assistants (ECA/UCA) provide high-quality care for a variety of situations, including medical/trauma emergencies, inter-hospital transfers, and hospital admissions. ECAs work as part of a dedicated team including Ambulance Care Assistants, Urgent Care Assistants, and qualified clinicians to deliver potentially life-saving care and transportation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive UKEMS vehicles under various conditions
  • Complete patient report forms and other paperwork, including police, coroner, and solicitor statements
  • Ensure safe transfer of patients using appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques
  • Perform dynamic risk assessments at incident scenes
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, colleagues, emergency services, and healthcare professionals
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment checks, report faults, and maintain records
  • Manage medical supplies and clinical waste properly
  • Maintain communication with the operations centre
  • Respond as first responder within scope of practice (FREC4) when necessary

About you:

Our ECAs typically have experience working for health trusts or independent ambulance services. You should hold the relevant qualifications and have knowledge of current operational procedures, clinical practices, and health & safety legislation. Attributes include reliability, conscientiousness, enthusiasm, self-motivation, and the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team. Interpersonal skills and professionalism are essential. A full, valid UK driving licence is required; a clean licence is preferred. All licence enforcements must be declared. The role is physically demanding; you must be able to lift approximately 11 stones / 70 kg with a colleague.
