The UCL Strategic Plan 2022-2027 outlines a vision for a ‘futures focussed’ UCL education that is ambitious and distinctive. It prompts us to view UCL education and student experience through the lens of current and future students to ensure we are able to meet their needs and expectations. It also recognises that ‘the future’ is not a given. Instead, different futures are there to be influenced and shaped by UCL students, staff and graduates through our teaching and research. One of the aims of the Strategic Plan is to bring together teaching, assessment and employability in order to support student futures and to that end, the new ‘UCL Higher Education Development & Support Institute’ (HEDS) has been established. HEDS brings together UCL Arena (UCL’s Education Development Centre) and UCL Careers.

The focus of the role is to bridge strategic planning and operational delivery within the Marketing Communications team, who deliver student and recent graduate communications for UCL Careers, directly and through a network of key internal stakeholders. The team is responsible for raising and maintaining the profile of Careers, and for managing our complex content channels through the planning, production and editing of lively strategic content. In this job you'll play an important role by supporting an overall shift away from reactive delivery towards proactive development, enabling the team to push forward with enhancements, respond to emerging needs, and strengthen Careers’ reputation as a dynamic, current and high-performing service for students, staff and employers. You'll take on mid-level responsibility for Marketing Communications delivery and insights, bridging the gap between operational delivery and strategic delivery. You will add capacity to the team for growth and innovation, sustainable reactive delivery, and developing high-potential areas. You'll also act as the day-to-day link to the central communications, Students’ Union communications, and other communications team partners. This post will also take ownership of the communications elements of delivering a strategic approach to promoting the Graduate Outcomes Survey to UK and international graduates. You will work with key stakeholders to design, deliver and monitor this marketing campaign, to support in boosting Graduate Outcomes response rates, a key strategic priority.

Things you'll need for this job include:

  • Demonstrable experience in marketing or communications with responsibility for managing timelines, stakeholders and delivery
  • Demonstrable professional experience across a range of communications channels, including print, digital, social media and media production, with working knowledge of content management systems
  • Experience of using analytics and evaluation methods to assess communications performance and impact
  • Extensive experience of researching, writing, editing, subediting and proofreading for print and digital communications
  • Good social and political awareness with sensitivity and good judgement in assessing risk and recognising potential reputational implications
  • High level of digital literacy including good knowledge of CMS platforms and web analytics tools, with experience of web editing
