The UCL Institute of Ophthalmology conducts cutting-edge research, attracting principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows and MD/PhD students of the highest international calibre to a stimulating research environment. The Institute is committed to a multi-disciplinary research portfolio that furthers an understanding of the eye and visual system linked with clinical investigations targeted to specific problems in the prevention and treatment of eye disease.

About the role

The Senior Finance and Research Administrator is a key member of the Finance and Research Team, responsible for delivering an efficient and effective day-to-day finance and research administration service at the Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO). The postholder is required to work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues within IoO and UCL, and externally to ensure the institute’s financial and operational activities are effectively and proactively supported. This post is available from 01 September 2026 until 06 August 2027. The post is open to external candidates on a fixed-term basis and to UCL internal candidates on a secondment basis. This post is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

About you

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent or have significant experience in a finance/research related role. Knowledge of research funding processes and regulations within a higher education/research environment is essential. Significant experience in research grant administration and experience of producing financial management reports, including budgets and recommendations is also essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to meet tight individual and group deadlines and to manage own workload through effective and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of people.
