Research Assistant (Neuroimaging)

The aim of the Department of Imaging Neuroscience is to advance our mechanistic understanding of how the brain works, including in real-world settings and contexts, and to develop clinically transformative applications of neuroimaging by providing computationally-derived biomarkers for personalised prognosis and treatment planning. We investigate how the human brain functions in health and disease and seek to establish non-invasive measures of brain function that can be used to identify the processes associated with neurological and psychiatric disorders, deliver personalised prognoses, and develop or assess potential treatments.

About the role

We are now recruiting a Research Assistant to support high quality data collection from all of the Department’s neuroimaging platforms across a wide variety of cognitive neuroscience domains and assist with the safe management of study participants while in the Department, most notably the MRI environment. Duties will include consenting study participants, operating the neuroimaging platforms, curation of data pertaining to the neuroimaging sessions, upkeep of equipment, and quality assurance testing.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in learning more about human neuroimaging.

You will gain valuable experience in data collection in a world-renowned imaging neuroscience department, providing a potential springboard for a range of future career avenues. Training in the use of the scanners and related procedures will be provided.

The post is available immediately and funded for two years in the first instance.

About you

You will have an honours degree (minimum 2:1) in neuroscience, psychology, radiography, physics, engineering, or a related discipline, coupled with experience of working with a neuroimaging modality (e.g., MRI, MEG, EEG) and an understanding of scientific research and the MRI safety principles. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to problem-solve and quickly learn new skills, and strong working knowledge of data protection and GDPR regulations are also essential for this role.
