The Department of Economics wishes to appoint Teaching Assistants for the 2026/27 academic year. The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning in our modules, working with the academic module leads through the delivery of small group teaching for students taking modules in the Economics Department.
The main duties will include:
- Agreed workload with the module lead including tutorial class teaching, preparation time, regular meetings with the course lecturer, provision of feedback to students, a weekly office hour, and two office hours in Term 3.
- Supporting lecturers in designing and delivering online teaching and learning activities such as attendance reporting on Moodle, coursework assessment, and assessment marking.
- Training in support of their roles and attendance at compulsory training sessions.
- Teaching on one module across all terms or across modules to make up the hours.
The successful candidate(s) will ordinarily have, or be currently pursuing, a postgraduate degree (PhD or equivalent), preferably in Economics or a related subject. Previous teaching experience is desirable.
Teaching Assistants are expected to commit to being present on the Bloomsbury campus during the terms for which teaching is allocated and during the Term 3 assessment period if required. They also need to be confident switching to delivering their duties online should circumstances change.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as a main point of contact for tutorial class teaching.
- Designing and preparing teaching material within the overall module framework.
- Marking student assessments and providing detailed feedback.
- Monitoring student progress, achievement, and attendance.
- Undertaking a weekly office hour for student enquiries.
- Examination marking duties in Term 3.
- Participation in regular meetings with the course lecturer.
- Following and promoting UCL policies, including Equal Opportunities.
