The UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN) is a new national network funded by the NIHR with just under £50 million to accelerate the set-up and delivery of early-phase clinical trials in dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases. Over five years, the network is expected to grow to more than 20 sites across all four nations of the UK. Led by Professor Cath Mummery, UKDTN brings together researchers, clinicians, people affected by dementia, charities, industry and other partners to strengthen dementia research across the UK. The Coordinating Centre is based at UCL and UCLH.
About the role
We are looking for an organised and enthusiastic Community Engagement Coordinator to support the delivery of the UKDTN Engagement Strategy and help enable diverse communities to participate in dementia research. You will coordinate community engagement and PPIE activities across the UKDTN network, develop and maintain engagement resources, build relationships with stakeholders, and coordinate national, regional and local events. Based at the new Rare Dementia Support Centre, you will also contribute to developing new community engagement events and support groups across the UK. This is a varied role with a national remit, involving collaboration with researchers, clinicians, charities, industry and community partners. Occasional evening and Saturday work, as well as some business travel, will be required. The post is available immediately and is funded by the NIHR for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of extension. This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 50% of time on site.
About you
You will have an Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant health-related discipline, with experience of organising community events and coordinating activities across multiple sites or teams. You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, strong digital and data management skills, and the ability to work independently and build effective relationships with a wide range of people. A demonstrable commitment to addressing the needs of individuals and families affected by dementia is essential, as is experience of working to enhance involvement and/or engagement of underrepresented communities in activities or services.
