About the role:

The main purpose of the PGTA role is to support teaching and learning in our modules, working with the academic staff through the delivery of small group teaching for first-year students taking modules on the BA Education, Society and Culture in the department of Education, Practice and Society. The main duties of the post are seminar class teaching (of approximately 20 students each), regular meetings with the course lecturer, provision of feedback to students, attending lectures, attendance reporting, coursework assessment and marking. Teaching Assistants will be given training in support of their roles.

We are currently appointing to the following Year 1 modules on the BA Education, Society and Culture:

These roles are available from 1st September 2026 to UCL Postgraduate Research (PGR) students who are registered from Term 1 of 2026. Please be aware that students may only be employed up to 180 hours in total as a PGTA across all UCL programmes. In exceptional cases, it is possible to hold a PGTA role on this BA programme (with responsibility for leading one seminar group) alongside a PGTA role on another programme, provided that the other role is for 90 hours or fewer.

About you:

You are currently a UCL PGR student, or registered as a UCL PGR student from Term 1 of 2026. The postholder will have demonstrable knowledge in a subject area relevant to the module(s) to be supported. You are educated to master’s degree level (or having equivalent experience), in an Education or Social Sciences related field, and working towards a relevant postgraduate degree (PhD). In addition, you have the ability to tutor and support undergraduate students on assigned modules, and have excellent organisational and time management skills.
