Post Graduate Teaching Assistant (PGTA) in London

The Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care comprises three research departments (Behavioural Science and Health, Epidemiology and Public Health, Primary Care and Population Health). We aim to understand and influence determinants of health and health behaviour across the life course. We develop and evaluate cross-sectoral policies and strategies to improve health, and enhance healthcare delivery and practice.

Our team is multidisciplinary, with expertise across clinical, public health, and primary care medicine, epidemiology, medical statistics, health psychology, sociology, health economics, public policy, information technology, genetics, physiology, and improvement science. We have strong national and international interdisciplinary collaborations with a large portfolio of international research linked to the UCL Global Health Initiative.

The purpose of this job is to support teaching and learning in our modules, working with the academic leads from across our programmes in our Institute. The main duties and responsibilities of the PGTA role are:

• tutorial class teaching
• regular meetings with the module lead/lecturers
• provision of feedback to students
• provision of weekly office hours
• coursework assessment
• examination marking

PGTAs will be given training and ongoing support to assist them in their roles. Please note this is primarily intended as an internal opportunity - only if there is no suitable PhD student at UCL identified would external applications from students at other universities be accepted and considered. This is the first round of our recruitment; there will be opportunities for additional work in Term 2 and Term 3 advertised in October. In the event we receive a high number of applications, we may close the vacancy ahead of the published closing date. As a minimum we will keep all adverts open for 2 weeks. About you: Candidates must be educated to Masters degree level (or having equivalent experience), in a field related to the disciplinary area; be working towards a relevant postgraduate degree (PhD) and have demonstrated knowledge in the areas to be taught.
