The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health is part of the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care and is co‑led by Professor Kate Walters & Professor Greta Rait. The Department’s strategic aim is to deliver high quality teaching in community‑based primary care and public health and to undertake a programme of internationally competitive multi‑disciplinary research addressing the management and prevention of disease in individuals and populations in areas which are of priority to the health of the public. The Institute's vision, led by the Director Professor Fiona Stevenson, is to understand the determinants of health and disease in both populations and clinical settings, evaluate strategies for prevention and treatment, and build capacity through excellence in teaching and training in population health.

About the role: This post is based within the Research Department of Primary Care & Population Health Department located at UCL's Royal Free Campus (Hampstead) with travel locally, regionally and nationally as required. The purpose of the role is to support national growth, capacity and capability in commercial research across primary care and wider care settings by developing understanding of commercial research delivery, academic skills, partnerships with stakeholders and insight into how nursing roles support commercial research. The post is offered at either 0.4 FTE or 0.5 FTE. This is a fixed‑term contract for up to 18 months (please note the post must end by 31 March 2028). The role is available as either a Senior Research Fellow (UCL Grade 8 £54,931 - £64,644), or a Principal Research Fellow (UCL Grade 9 £68,284 - £76,244) depending on qualification and experience. For appointments at a higher level, evidence of leadership through professional collaborations and a measurable impact on patient outcomes or clinical guidelines is also required. Salaries (pro‑rata) are inclusive of London Allowance.

This appointment is subject to: Registered as a Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) Nurse; Clinically active in primary care, community services, or wider care settings.

About you: Candidates must be a Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) registered nurse currently active in primary care, community services, or wider care settings, holding a postgraduate nursing degree or equivalent experience. The role requires a professional with a strong interest in research, service improvement, or innovation, alongside a proven track record of working effectively within multidisciplinary and multi‑professional teams. Essential skills include excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to engage diverse stakeholders, robust problem‑solving capabilities, and strong organisational skills to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines. Additionally, the individual must demonstrate a self‑motivated, collaborative and adaptable aptitude, with a willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationally to actively participate in shared cohort learning and strategic networking.
