The UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences (FPHS) brings together eight academic departments whose common aim is to explore and understand the underlying factors that cause ill-health and innovate to improve health worldwide. Our exciting cross-disciplinary community encompasses eight institutes and schools, including the Global Business School for Health - the world's first business school dedicated to health.
In the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 results, UCL was rated No. 1 for research power and impact in medicine, health and life sciences, and we are ranked 3rd in the world and 2nd in the UK for Public Health in the 2024 Shanghai Rankings. About the role: The postholder is part of the Faculty Education and Student Experience (EASE) team, supporting all our students. The Head of Education and Student Experience (HESE) provides high-level support for the effective operation of educational programmes within the faculty. The HESE oversees professional service support for all aspects of student recruitment, student records, teaching delivery, student experience and student support, liaising with UCL's central professional service departments to do so. They will work with the Director of Education and Student Experience (DESE) and Faculty Graduate Tutor (FGT) to advise on the implementation of academic policy and regulations. This role will be line managed by the Director of Education and Student Experience. They will line manage a small team of Grade 8 Education Administration and Student Experience staff and one Grade 7 Student Records Liaison Officer. They will be part of and work closely with the Faculty Education Team.
About you: You are an experienced manager who has worked in higher education (or a similar industry) for several years. You have a good understanding of the UK higher education context and experience of quality assurance work in the sector. You have knowledge of the needs of students, both in terms of teaching and learning, and broader pastoral and welfare requirements. You care about working kindly and in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, and you're able to balance competing perspectives and priorities. You have experience of developing effective teams and leading staff, and you can set standards and improve processes. You have data analysis experience, and you are familiar with the use of performance indicators to drive student satisfaction. You are a highly organised and strategic thinker, while also culturally sensitive and able to deal with complaints and grievances. You are able to understand the dynamics of team working, negotiation, responsibility, and accountability.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
