About the role
We are seeking to appoint a full‑time academic to join the Bartlett School of Architecture as a Lecturer in Space Syntax 1FTE. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the world's leading centres for research and education in architecture and the built environment. You will deliver research‑led teaching on the MSc Space Syntax: Architecture and Cities, supervise postgraduate students, and develop an internationally recognised programme of research in space syntax, spatial analysis and the social, cultural and environmental dimensions of architecture and cities. Working within the renowned Space Syntax Laboratory, you will collaborate across disciplines and help shape the future of research, teaching and innovation in this rapidly evolving field.
About you
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in space syntax, will have a track record of peer‑reviewed publications in the domain, and experience of postgraduate education, including qualification to supervise PhD students. They will also have obtained competitive research funding, with a research profile appropriate to that of a lecturer at UCL. Candidates will be expected to contribute to the core modules on the MSc Space Syntax, as well as assisting on the marketing and administration of the course. In addition, they will supervise students in the Architectural Space & Computation MPhil/PhD programme. Candidates will also be expected to develop a high‑quality profile in space syntax, publishing in journals and disseminating through conferences, workshops, professional engagement and public‑facing activities, develop interdisciplinary research collaborations, and apply for competitive funding. Candidates will ideally also have experience of interdisciplinary collaboration and/or research‑led development of analytical methods, software or datasets relevant to the field of space syntax. Candidates will be required to prepare a 6‑minute presentation in which they outline their vision for the future of the discipline of space syntax.
