The Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering is one of the largest Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering departments in the UK.
The Department is proud to host internationally-leading research groups covering a broad range of activities and spread over several sites.
Our staff and students have a diverse range of interests and expertise , covering many areas of physics, engineering, medicine, physiology, computer science, and mathematics.
Our focus is on excellent academic research in identifying new technologies and methods for diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases using medical imaging, physiological monitoring, and the development of implanted devices.

About the role
Applications are invited for a Laboratory & Cleanroom Technician to join the facilities of the Implanted Devices Group (IDG).
This post offers a unique opportunity to support and contribute to the daily operation of the high-end research facilities within the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering.
The successful candidate will combine strong organisational and communication skills with a keen interest in developing their technical abilities.
- This is a fixed-term (maternity cover) role until04/05/2027.
- Please note that the earliest start date for this role is 05/05/2026.
- This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation.
The successful candidate willhave a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (including Mathematics and English Language and a Science subject) or equivalent or havingacquiredrelevant experience.
The applicant will havea profound awareness of Health and Safety requirements within a laboratorytogether witha practical interest in engineering.
The ideal candidate will have a practical interest in engineering, strongproblemsolvingability, and a careful, accurateapproach to technical tasks.
They should be confident supporting students anddemonstratingsafe use of tools and equipment, with clear written and spoken communication that makes technical information accessible.
Good judgement, flexibility, and strong organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to manage their own workload, work independently when needed, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
