UCL is a world-leading teaching and research university, often ranked in the top ten in the world with an annual turnover of well over £1 billion. Part of UCL’s vision is to take on the hardest global challenges. The Information Services Division (ISD) is the primary provider of IT services to UCL. We support and enhance learning, teaching, research and administrative processes by providing information and technology-related services to over 50,000 staff and students of UCL and associated institutions. Our ambition is to be the leading IT services group in the HE sector and we are growing our team’s capability in experience/UX, agile development, security, cloud, service management and partnering.

We are modernising our technology foundations, digitising the processes of the university to transform experience for students and staff, and partnering across the university to drive differentiation in UCL education and research.

This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing and enhancing digital solutions across the University. We are seeking an Application and System Specialist to join our dynamic team within UCL’s Information Services Division. This is a varied and impactful role that blends operational support with strategic development work. You will provide day-to-day systems and application support for some of UCL’s busiest academic departments, helping to maintain essential research and teaching platforms while supporting academic colleagues with a wide range of technical services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Systems administration
  • Fault resolution
  • Participation in project and product teams

A key focus will be supporting the delivery of our Intelligent Insight Data Hub initiative, which is transforming how departments store, access, and share information. You’ll help teams transition from traditional networked storage to cloud-based solution using SharePoint, configuring metadata, creating automated flows, testing with stakeholders, and ensuring secure, sustainable access to data. The role will also open up opportunities to develop solutions using the full suite of the Microsoft Power Platform.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to combine strong operational IT skills with involvement in digital transformation at scale.

We are looking for a highly motivated and versatile IT professional with a strong foundation in Microsoft 365 technologies, including SharePoint and Power Automate, as well as general systems administration. You’re just as comfortable resolving day-to-day technical issues and supporting academic systems as you are designing and delivering scalable digital solutions that transform how teams work. You bring solid experience in managing Windows or Linux environments, troubleshooting incidents, and working proactively to ensure the stability, security, and performance of key applications and infrastructure.

You thrive in environments where no two days are the same — confidently balancing operational support with longer-term development goals. Your ability to gather and analyse user needs, especially from academic and administrative staff, enables you to build practical, user-friendly solutions. With strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset, you’re comfortable working across multiple projects and collaborating within product teams.

What we offer:

  • 41 Days holiday (27 days annual leave, 8 bank holiday and 6 closure days)
  • Additional 5 days’ annual leave purchase scheme
  • Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE)
  • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
  • Relocation scheme for certain posts
  • On-site gym
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service

As London’s Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world’s talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL’s workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQI+ people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles, women.
