UCL Museums and Cultural Programmes looks after UCL’s four museums – Grant Museum of Zoology, Pathology Museum, Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology and UCL Art Museum – and allied object collections. The UCL Museums and Cultural Programmes team uses UCL’s rich and diverse collections to support teaching, research and public engagement.
About the role: The Curator (Science Collections) is responsible for facilitating collections-based teaching, research and activities that draw upon the collections. They will ensure that collections management activities are in accordance with required standards including accreditation and relevant legal and ethical requirements. The Curator will work in close collaboration with the Head of Collection and Curatorial and Collections Assistant (CCA) for their collection, as well as wider colleagues to support public engagement and research impact outputs. This is a fixed-term contract (1 year maternity cover). Hybrid working: This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 80% on site. This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
About you: We are looking for candidates who in particular have the following experience and skills:
- Experience of curating science and/or pathology collections in a museum environment
- Knowledge and understanding of collections legislation and ethics (e.g. Human Tissue Act)
- Experience of science and/or pathology collections care and documentation, managing loans, acquisitions and disposals, object handling
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of audiences through talks, formal or informal teaching sessions, or workshops
