Clinical Training Fellow / Clinical Lecturer in Medical Oncology – LCINS
UCL and NHS England London invite applications for a locally funded, NIHR‑recognised Academic Clinical Lecturer (CL) post in Medical Oncology, based at a UK non‑UCL clinical site with the research component hosted at UCL Cancer Institute.
Two posts are available (advertised separately).
- Grade: ST3–ST6 (grade at post start date)
- Duration: Up to 4 years (or until CCT is reached)
- Working split: 50% clinical training / 50% academic research
Applicants must:
- Be medically qualified and hold an NTN in Medical Oncology or be clinically benchmarked
- Be ST3–ST6 at the start date
- Hold a PhD or MD (original research)
- Thesis must be submitted by application closing date
- Degree must be awarded before starting
- Have at least one year before CCT at appointment
(Those close to CCT may apply but are ineligible for extensions.)
Applicants who have already held an NIHR CL are not eligible but may apply if their previous CL was locally funded.
Entry grade rules
Appointments are made strictly at the grade held at post start date. Trainees may not repeat training or start at a lower or non‑advertised grade.
Person specifications
Applicants must meet:
- The Supplementary Clinical Lectureship (academic) Person Specification, and
- The relevant NHS England specialty Person Specification
All essential criteria and competencies must be clearly evidenced in the application.
Academic and research component
The post offers protected time for post‑doctoral research and supports progression towards further research funding. The research programme focuses on lung cancer in never smokers (LCINS) and explores the biological basis of observed sex differences in incidence. Work will be supervised by Prof Charles Swanton and Prof Gert Attard, using human and murine models, single‑cell RNA sequencing, proteomics, TRACERX data, and potentially UK Biobank data, with strong translational potential.
