Clinical Research Fellow in Radiotherapy on cancer evolution

The CRUK City of London Radiation Research Centre (CoL RRC) in the department of Medical Physics and biomedical Engineering at UCL is a Cancer Research UK (CRUK) funded centre. The Centre features an ambitious research programme for radiation oncology and radiation biology. The network, Cancer Research UK RadNet, is the charity’s largest ever investment in radiotherapy research and accelerates the development of advanced radiotherapy techniques, challenging the boundaries of this mainstay treatment through world-first exploratory projects.

The Centre is a world‑class hub for cancer biotherapeutics. It brings together researchers from four of the central London Cancer Research UK centres: University College London, Kings College London, Barts / Queen Mary University of London and the Francis Crick Institute. This unique interdisciplinary and collaborative network generates novel innovative therapies, diagnostics and stratification strategies in addition to providing a clinical and translational pipeline for cancer discovery science. This post is funded as part of a CoL Radiation Research Centre programme grant.

About the role

This role supports clinical and translational research within the CRUK City of London Radiation Research Programme, investigating cancer evolution, treatment response, and mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance through laboratory-based and computational research approaches.

  • You will lead and contribute to research projects, analyse biological specimens and clinical datasets, collaborate with multidisciplinary and international teams.
  • Support grant applications and publish findings in high-impact scientific forums.
  • Working in a highly collaborative and innovative environment alongside researchers and clinicians at UCL and UCLH.
  • Contribute to the Providentia 1000 Project, developing a unique integrated radiotherapy and molecular outcomes database for children and young people.

Appointment will be on either RDPS for resident doctors in a GMC-approved training programme, or to CL7 will be where this role is joined with an existing, separate clinical role the applicant holds, in line with the Follett Principles on joint clinical academic employment.

About you

The role is ideally suited to an oncology trainee with strong research, analytical and communication skills who is keen to develop expertise in translational cancer research, precision medicine and radiation oncology .
