UCL Eastman Dental Institute (EDI) is a postgraduate dental school with a reputation as a leading centre worldwide. EDI’s main activities are research and education in the field of oral healthcare sciences. EDI works closely in the furtherance of its mission with the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital (EDH), part of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), and other local healthcare providers.

The Unit of Prosthodontics has a first class national and international reputation for its patient care, teaching and research activities. The Unit provides high level diagnosis, advice, treatment planning and treatment of an advanced nature in the fields of Conservative Dentistry, Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, including implantology, for patients referred by general dental practitioners and other hospitals.

A central focus of the Unit is to provide high quality patient care through the educational programme for postgraduates in Prosthodontics at Masters and Specialist levels as well as Specialist Registrars in Restorative Dentistry. We attract trainees from across the world!

About the role: The main purpose of this post is to support and assist in the development of education, research activities relevant to Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, and to play an integral role in the delivery of care to patients. The post-holder will participate in the ongoing revision and updating of comprehensive education and training programmes in Prosthodontics and Conservative Dentistry and will liaise with the Programme Directors in developing these programmes according to the priorities of the Eastman Dental Institute. Through effective and high quality teaching the post-holder will inspire students, enabling students to develop the required skills and knowledge within their field of study.

The post-holder will play an active role in expanding clinical research within Prosthodontics, and strengthening collaborative activities with basic medical science units at both the Eastman Dental Institute and University College London. The post-holder will liaise with the Director of Clinical Research to establish appropriate translational research themes according to the Institute’s priorities.

Starting salary at UCL Grade CL8 will range from £57,397 to £65,056 depending on experience with an additional London allowance of £4,678. This role meets the requirements for a Skilled Worker certificate of sponsorship or Global Talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.

Interviews are expected to take place on a date TBC soon after the deadline of the applications. The shortlisting and interview process will also include a clinical portfolio and a short presentation. An Enhanced DBS check is required to carry out this role.

You will be expected to comply with the Trust and University regulations in line with patient care and clinical research and will be expected to adhere to the governance requirements such that quality standards are met. You will also be expected to work closely with the Clinical Lead of the Department to ensure that all patient related protocols and guidelines relating to patient care are achieved and maintained.

You must be registered with the GDC, and included in the Prosthodontic Specialty list or be eligible to register. You will have experience of delivering postgraduate teaching in Prosthodontics, and will also have experience of delivering continuing professional development courses. You should be keen to advance your career in academia.

Appointment is subject to eligibility to be fully registered with the General Dental Council, and where appropriate, the relevant specialist list. Pre-employment health screening assessment, Disclosure and Barring Service assessment, NHS Honorary Contract.
