The Division of Biosciences at UCL is one of the world's foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences. We have an outstanding international reputation and a community of over 500 staff and more than 300 PhD students engaged in cutting edge research and collaboration.

The Annals of Botany Company is an educational charity that has been supporting plant sciences for well over 100 years. It publishes the Annals of Botany, the open access journal AOB plants, and more recently begun the new journal in-silico Plants, a web log, Botany One and The Week In Botany. The Annals of Botany Company is a limited Company and registered charity, with ten Trustee members, a Chair and Treasurer/Secretary.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy and thriving Biosciences Professional Services team who are committed to excellence in customer service.

About the role

The main purpose of this position is to provide dedicated administrative coordination to the Chair and Treasurer/Secretary of the Annals of Botany company. The post holder will coordinate all aspects of administration, including occasional editorial meetings and associated activities, ensuring smooth logistical and operational delivery. They will also assist with the processing of invoices on behalf of the Treasurer. The role is externally funded by the Annals of Botany Company and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile publishing company while gaining experience in research-related administration. This is a part time role at 0.4 FTE. Salary is £43,981 - 52,586 per annum (pro-rata at 0.4FTE, inclusive of London Allowance). This is a fixed-term role until 31 December 2028. This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 2 days on site. This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

About you

The post holder will work across a wide range of operational areas, providing executive administration support for AOB Company Chair and Secretary and external stakeholders; collaborating with specialist Biosciences Divisional teams on HR/staffing matters, financial processes, communications, and general administration as required. You must have a good standard of general education to A level, or NVQ Level IV administration, or equivalent or have substantial relevant experience and experience of project management, including the coordination of multiple strands of activity. Strong organisational skills are essential as is the ability to work successfully without direct supervision. You will be able to prioritise and meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure. You will also be meticulous and accurate in all aspects of work and hold high professional standards and the ability to produce quality work to tight deadlines.
