Study Abroad and International Student Support (SA/ISS) sits within Student Support and Wellbeing Services (SSWS). The Study Abroad service is responsible for the delivery of a programme of opportunities for students to gain global experience as part of their UCL studies. The team works to promote global student mobility across the institution, providing a range of services for students considering, preparing for, or undertaking an international placement. They also manage UCL’s exchange partnerships. International Student Support (ISS) is a dedicated support service for full-degree international students – providing specialist support and advice for all non-UK students for the duration of their studies. ISS sits alongside the Study Abroad Team, complementing the work of this team, which supports outbound students, by offering inbound mobility support. The Affiliate Student Experience Manager would sit alongside Study Abroad and International Student Support, providing dedicated support to inbound study abroad students, whether fee-paying or exchange. These students are known as ‘affiliate’ students.
About the role
As Affiliate Student Experience Manager for the UCL Study Abroad Team, you will develop expertise and an overview of affiliate processes, policies, and issues, to deliver a central coordination and communication role in support of affiliate students. You will be responsible for overseeing multiple affiliate projects and leading on process improvement workstreams. You will support key stakeholder networks across faculties and departments, providing regular updates and reporting to relevant working groups, including the Study Abroad Working Group. You will support the development of key messaging and communications to international partners. You will conduct research of affiliate offers across other Russell Group institutions and will work with faculties and departments, as well as central services, to scope out the feasibility of a standalone affiliate programme with dedicated affiliate modules. The affiliate student experience is an area that UCL is committed to improving and there are likely to be new objectives arising that the postholder will be asked to develop and implement.
About you
The successful candidate will have experience working with inbound Study Abroad or Exchange students and managing key inbound processes for central teams of academic departments within a university setting. They will have led on process improvement projects in support of the Study Abroad or Exchange student experience and have a good understanding of the challenges these students face. They will have experience managing urgent and complex student situations and will have experience of working successfully with a wide range of stakeholders – including senior stakeholders – and ensuring engagement in projects and activities. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, including an empathic and enabling approach to working with students, and a diplomatic and tactful approach to engaging with academic and Professional Services stakeholders.
