UCL's Finance team is responsible for the management of UCL's financial performance and strategy and for providing assurance to our council and University Management Committee on UCL’s financial position. We currently have a vacant permanent position for an Accounts Assistant within the Management Accounting team. In this job you will work in partnership with staff delivering, managing, and leading finance activity in departments, to improve the accuracy of the University’s management accounts, and overall financial management of UCL.
About the role

UCL’s Finance Division plays a critical role in the university’s success, ensuring financial sustainability while enabling transformative research, teaching and innovation. In this role you will support the Management Accountant, who is responsible for one of six businesses, and will work closely with Faculty and Departmental professional colleagues, the wider Finance team, and senior leaders. You will be involved in:
- Providing management accounting services to UCL faculties including processing journals, performing reconciliations, raising invoices against contracts, requisitioning PO’s
- Supporting the month end process to ensure accurate data underpins the management reporting
- Preparing monthly management accounts, ensuring high-quality output and adherence to reporting deadlines
- Delivering general accounting and transactional processing services supporting day-to-day operational finance
- Supporting and inputting into budget and forecast template returns, and reviewing returns to ensure information is complete and accurate
- Building strong working relationships with key stakeholders to deepen understanding of the business and its requirements
- Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and statutory obligations.
About you
We are seeking a highly capable and proactive individual who can thrive in a dynamic environment. You will:
- Hold GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade C/ Grade 4, or equivalent qualifications
- Have experience of working in a service delivery environment
- Have experience of working collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong data analysis and reconciliation skills
- Strong IT skills including advanced knowledge of Excel and a good all-round knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Prior experience of a Higher Education environment and using Oracle or a similar large accountancy system would be useful.
