As a specialist in Adult community Psychiatry, you will work with the CPNs and integrated team psychologists to provide medical expertise for CTT patients across psychosis and non-psychosis pathways. The Team is one of the Trust's pilot sites for the Community Transformation work. You will be an active member in supporting the Trust and your team during this process.
The job is 8 PAs a week over 4 days and you will be working alongside the multidisciplinary team, including junior doctors and wider clinical teams. You will be the clinical expert from a medical perspective to ensure best practice care is delivered and support the team. The post holder will offer medical input to the Step up hub team South Tyneside. The Step up Hub team provides an enhanced intensity of interventions to patients with high complex needs, usually in stepped care or supported accommodation.
Main duties of the job:The post-holders will provide Consultant clinical leadership to the service and will assume consultant psychiatrist responsibility for their proportion of patients being looked after by the team. This includes assuming Responsible Clinician status for patients under their care, including patients subject to Community Treatment Orders, taking a lead on compliance with the Mental Health Act and CQC requirements. They will participate, directly and indirectly, in the assessment of patients referred to the service and in drawing up care plans which will address the patients' psychiatric, physical, and social needs. They will carry out detailed psychiatric assessments of patients as clinically indicated to allow accurate diagnoses and contribute to their treatment plans, including pharmacological management of psychotropic medication. The post-holder will forge good working relationships with other psychiatrists across the Directorate in order to encourage appropriate referrals and assure a cooperative approach to the care of patients. They will be linked in with other Consultants and supported to join peer groups. They will also provide consultation and advice to members of the MDT and primary care colleagues.

Job responsibilities:Applicants should be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the point of interview. Candidates should be suitably qualified, including eligibility for Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status. This is a substantive 8 sessions post; however, we would be happy to consider applicants available on a full-time basis. Person Specification:Qualifications and Training:
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Approved Clinician Status
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Has undergone training in educational supervision
- Has undergone training in appraisal
Knowledge:
- Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
- Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
- An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
Experience:
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Wide clinical experience in general adult psychiatry in different clinical settings
- Experience of Clinical Audit
- Experience in multiagency work especially with service users, carers and voluntary agencies
- Experience in service management or development
Skills:
- High level of clinical skills
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in Adult Psychiatry
- Excellent teaching skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a time-efficient manner
- Established record of clinical leadership
- Established ability as a clinical teacher
- Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy.
