The Role

The Infrastructure Operations Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day support of Operational IT Infrastructure Services. The Infrastructure Operations Analyst is responsible for ensuring that the service requirements of the business are met, with the primary drivers being the Availability, Capability and Manageability of services. This support role will include supporting and maintaining traditional on-premise and cloud Infrastructure primarily day to day BAU/Operations including vulnerability management. The role will also involve supporting Azure services with our Azure Platform Team who are responsible for implementing new IaC Azure services for the CAA using Terraform.

Core Accountabilities

  • Systems administration of the specified infrastructure and technologies, and configuration and deployment as required
  • Work with the Azure Platform team, attending standups where necessary and to support in an operational capacity
  • Ensure CAA Infrastructure environments are up to date by undertaking updates, upgrades, fixes and maintenance where required.
  • Undertake scheduled preventative maintenance in line with available tools
  • Responsible for the delivery of IT infrastructure in line with the company's business goals
  • To coordinate and perform Operational Support activities including the provision of technical expertise to assist in efficient and effective Infrastructure and the associated environments
  • Assist in IT Infrastructure Projects
  • Act as project resource to assist the Platform Delivery team in delivering projects or changes where applicable and to allow for knowledge transfer into support
  • Monitor systems usage and performance to ensure that resources are used efficiently and that the required resource usage does not exceed those available
  • Responsible for providing input into the optimisation of infrastructure system management approaches through an understanding of evolving business needs and technology capabilities
  • Management of incidents and changes allocated by the Service Desk using the EasyVista ITSM platform
  • Undertake agreed preventative maintenance out of hours in line with available tools
  • Progress changes and work orders in line with defined change management process
  • Ensure that all calls and changes are dealt with and within agreed SLA’s
  • Resolution of hardware problems via the appropriate supplier
  • Ensure that problems arising are dealt with and users are kept informed
  • Incidents and Change kept updated regularly
  • Provide on-call support as part of a rota, to be able to respond at short notice to high priority incidents out of hours

About You

  • Minimum 3 years in a 3rd line Infrastructure Support or Operational role
  • Relevant technical knowledge and experience of supporting and managing Enterprise Information Technologies, specifically Networking (LAN, WAN, DHCP, DNS), Operating Systems (Windows, Linux), Server/Application Virtualisation (VMWare), NetApp Storage and Security
  • Good/Strong scripting language skills from using tools such as PowerShell
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering key technologies deployed within the CAA environment including Intune, VMware, Azure, M365, and Cisco
  • Experience in vulnerability management using tools such as Tenable and Defender
  • Experience in managing and updating firmware for Cisco switches, ESX hosts, and other similar hardware would be an advantage
  • Understanding and/or experience using Terraform code in Azure would be an advantage
  • Experience with Certificate Lifecycle Management and PKI using DigiCert One
  • Knowledge of cabling/patching of systems and installation
  • Methodical and organised

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff and management at all levels
  • Be self-motivated and can motivate and influence others
  • Operational experience of infrastructure environments embracing the following technology platforms:
    • Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022
    • Active Directory Services
    • Azure technologies inc. configuring, supporting, maintaining and administering Intune (Autopilot, Intune policies and configuration), Exchange Admin and other Azure admin centre and services (Teams, Defender etc.)
    • Networking (working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, LAN/WAN technologies)
    • PowerShell
    • Virtualisation (VMware ESXi 8.x/9.x)
    • NetApp SAN (ONTAP)
    • DigiCert One Certificate Lifecycle Management
    • Tenable Cloud security
    • SolarWinds monitoring platform
    • Maintaining/updating hardware inc. ESX hosts and Cisco switches
    • Mail Services (Exchange 2016/O365)
    • Security (protocols and best practices)

Ideally the post holder should have:

  • Formal technical accreditation in Infrastructure technology (Cisco, Microsoft, etc).
  • Formal ITIL accreditations to Foundation level

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance. SC - To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 5 years.

Relocation & Property

The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years’ time. Our move is driven by strategic, operational and environmental considerations. We will be moving to a new local home, up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House, to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers. We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office, before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land, vacate the site and move to new premises, but we do not expect to move before 2028.
