The UK Business Angels Association (UKBAA) is the trade body for angel and early-stage investment in the UK, representing a thriving community of over 650 members including angel groups, individual investors, venture funds, accelerators, and support organisations. Our mission is to build and connect the ecosystem that funds and supports the UK’s most exciting startups and scaleups.

We are seeking a proactive and commercially-minded Membership Growth & Engagement Manager to lead on membership sales and retention, while enhancing the overall value and experience of UKBAA membership. You’ll play a pivotal role in growing our member base, nurturing relationships, and shaping initiatives that respond to members' evolving needs and ambitions. This is a strategic and hands-on role for someone who thrives in a small, entrepreneurial team environment and is passionate about supporting innovation, startups, and the investment ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive new member acquisition across all segments (investors, funds, networks, advisors, etc.).
  • Develop and implement a targeted sales strategy including lead generation, pipeline management, and conversion.
  • Build relationships with prospective members, articulating the value of UKBAA membership and tailoring the offer to different audiences.
  • Identify and pursue partnership opportunities to expand reach and enhance the membership proposition.

Membership Engagement & Value Proposition

  • Evolve and strengthen the UKBAA membership offer to ensure it delivers clear, compelling value.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new initiatives, events, content, and services that align with member needs and interests.
  • Monitor member feedback and engagement metrics to inform continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and events teams to ensure the membership voice is embedded in all communications and programming.

Retention & Relationship Management

  • Manage member renewals and develop strategies to enhance retention.
  • Build strong relationships with existing members, ensuring regular touchpoints and personalised engagement.
  • Maintain an up-to-date CRM and member insights to support data-driven decisions and reporting.
  • Work with the Membership Administrator to ensure that membership fees and renewals are received on time, and intervene to retain members that may be considering cancelling their membership.

Strategic Development

  • Work with the CEO and wider team to shape the strategic direction of membership growth and engagement.
  • Prepare regular reports and insights on membership trends, challenges, and opportunities for the leadership team and board.

Person Specification

  • Proven experience in membership sales, business development, or partnership management, ideally in a membership body, network, or similar organisation.
  • Strong commercial acumen and track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently, manage priorities, and drive initiatives from concept to execution.
  • Comfortable using CRM systems, data analysis tools, and digital communication platforms.
  • Knowledge of the UK early-stage investment or innovation ecosystem.
  • Experience developing and managing membership offerings or benefits programmes.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar CRM platforms.
