Working within the Imaging Enhancement Study, you’ll be responsible for producing high-quality images in line with UK Biobank protocols, while supporting the smooth and safe running of the Imaging Centre. You’ll provide guidance and reassurance to participants, support colleagues in their development, and contribute to maintaining a professional, safe, and efficient clinical environment. This role also includes supporting senior colleagues when required and helping ensure imaging activity meets the highest standards of quality and safety. With the Brain Health Study launching in June, this role offers the chance to be involved in an exciting next phase of UK Biobank’s imaging work, with exposure across multiple imaging modalities.
You will be responsible for:
- Capturing high-quality images in accordance with UK Biobank imaging protocols.
- Supporting the day-to-day operation of the Imaging Centre, assisting Superintendent Radiographers and the Centre Manager when required.
- Providing advice and guidance to less experienced radiographers and acting as cover for Superintendent Radiographers when needed.
- Performing quality control, quality assurance, safety screening, and participant handling and reassurance.
- Identifying and escalating any potentially serious incidental findings in line with UK Biobank policy.
- Helping train new staff in UK Biobank imaging protocols, including neuro, cardiac, and abdominal MR, carotid ultrasound, and DEXA imaging.
- Ensuring imaging equipment is functioning safely, reporting faults promptly and maintaining accurate records.
- Supporting a safe, professional working environment for colleagues and participants.
Is this you? To be successful, you will have:
- A BSc or Diploma in Radiography.
- State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Detailed knowledge of MRI safety requirements and IR(MER).
- Experience of imaging quality assurance and quality acquisition.
- The ability to work independently, carrying out unsupervised scanning safely.
- Knowledge and experience of DEXA and/or ultrasound imaging.
- A willingness to adopt new techniques and research procedures.
