Help shape how researchers safely access and use one of the world's leading health datasets. At UK Biobank, researchers across the globe use our data to advance understanding of disease, prevention, and treatment. As the use of health data continues to evolve, so too does the importance of ensuring access is secure, responsible, and supports world‑class research.
We're looking for a Project Manager to join us on a 6-month fixed‑term contract, supporting a series of important projects linked to data access, governance and researcher onboarding. This is a role where strong project delivery meets meaningful impact.
This role will support the delivery of several high‑profile initiatives that sit at the heart of how researchers access and use UK Biobank data. Working across internal teams, governance groups, researchers, and external stakeholders, you'll help progress key board actions and projects linked to data access, onboarding, governance, and risk management.
You’ll play an important role in shaping processes that support researcher access, reviewing governance frameworks, supporting updates to key agreements such as the Material Transfer Agreement (MTA), and helping assess emerging risks linked to deidentified data. Alongside managing project activity, you’ll coordinate stakeholders, manage dependencies, track progress, identify risks, and help ensure delivery remains on track against agreed outcomes.
This role offers a unique mix of project management, governance, stakeholder engagement, policy implementation, and data‑related risk management.
You will be responsible for:
- Engaging with key project stakeholders and UKB teams to develop, manage and maintain project documentation, including Work Breakdown Structures, Project Plans, Risks and Issues registers, contingency plans, Quality Assurance Plans and Registers, Benefits Maps, Communication and Engagement Plans, Project Initiation Documentation and Post‑Implementation Review Documentation.
- Preparing reports and presenting them to relevant stakeholder groups and boards for communication, review, and agreement, including Monthly Highlight Reports, Project Closure Reports, and Lessons Learnt Reports.
- Liaising with external suppliers or account managers as required.
- Leading and motivating project contributors, ensuring that all involved understand their roles and responsibilities and are working effectively to deliver against the plan.
- Managing the communication strategies and channels between stakeholders and project delivery teams.
Is this you?
- A recognised qualification in Project Management methodology (e.g. PRINCE2) or similar.
- Experience of working in a complex projects/programme’s environment.
- A logical, structured, and methodical approach to project planning and delivery.
- The ability to work under pressure and at pace, and exercising good judgement to manage conflicting priorities.
- Able to communicate well and collaborate and engage effectively with a range of internal and external teams and stakeholders at all levels.
Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday with some flexibility, 3 days onsite with hybrid working available. Located in Greater Manchester (Park Square).
