Job title: Project Manager Team Leader. Location: Culham, Oxfordshire. Onsite requirement: 3 days per week (flexible working options available). Salary: £56,596 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance).

The role may lead and manage medium (<£10M) projects with varying risk and complexity, provide coordination and support to larger projects, and lead a team of technical coordinators / project managers. The position requires completing an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks, and possibly an open-source data search.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure staff safety, health and welfare in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Actively promote UKAEA values and champion equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Effectively manage staff including resource allocation, knowledge transfer, welfare, objectives and performance management, absence management, professional development, and coaching.
  • Ensure suitably qualified staff are in place to meet current and future needs per UKAEA standards; ensure management systems and regulations are adhered to.
  • Manage project budgets up to approximately £10M and oversee project planning, cost forecasting and overall execution strategy.
  • Deploy project resources through clear roles, responsibilities, methods, and task sequencing.
  • Evaluate and present decisions to secure project benefits; identify and implement creative solutions to obstacles.
  • Collaborate with the Project Sponsor to develop a Project Management Plan and define how the project will be delivered.
  • Oversee effective communication within the project and support the sponsor in stakeholder interactions; define milestones and deliverables.
  • Manage project documentation for lifecycle in line with UKAEA Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Report progress against milestones, changes, exceptions, budgets, and KPIs.
  • Ensure alignment of SHEQ culture and practices with UKAEA requirements.
  • Coordinate with other Groups and Departments to ensure cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Chartered status in a relevant STEM discipline
  • Track record of delivering complex engineering projects to budget, time, and cost
  • Pro-active approach to safety and UK compliance in design
  • Strong commercial awareness to maximise project value
  • Good background knowledge of fusion science/technology and engineering
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and collaboration skills
  • Experience in line management and coaching
  • Experience in building, mentoring, and leading teams
