Job Description
The salary for this role is £42,858 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week; however, we actively support requests for flexible working. This role is based in Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
As a Plasma Exhaust Modeller, you will develop and use primarily numerical/computational physical models to describe the behaviour of plasma at the periphery of tokamak devices. Key duties include:
- Modelling of the scrape-off layer (SOL) transport, including the effect of neutral particles;
- Providing interpretative modelling of MAST-U with 2D and 3D fluid codes;
- Validating simulation results and theoretical findings against MAST-U experimental measurements.
Your career development as a scientist will be strongly supported, including working towards chartership with the Institute of Physics.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to and lead the development of new SOL predictive and interpretative codes;
- Support experimentalists by providing theoretical insight when requested;
- Complete projects for validating numerical and theoretical results against MAST-U experiments;
- Propose experiments and lead/contribute to research on MAST-U;
- Report research findings in refereed journal articles as well as at internal meetings, workshops, and international conferences.
