The salary for this role is £64,820 (inclusive of Specialist Allowance) + excellent benefits including outstanding pension. Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we support requests for flexible working. This role is based at Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Engineering Analysis Group provides specialist support to UKAEA engineering activities, solving complex technical problems using advanced analytical methods while ensuring alignment with industry quality standards. You will lead the Engineering Analysis Team within the Product Engineering Analysis Group, delivering expert technical guidance across UKAEA. You will manage team performance and development, ensure the implementation of technical procedures, support strategic planning, and coordinate workloads to meet project demands effectively.

This role requires a high level of technical expertise to ensure engineered products operate safely and reliably. If you want to play a critical role in maintaining staff capability and reducing organisational risk, including potential reputational impact, then we would like to hear from you.

Key Accountabilities:

  • You will have the opportunity to oversee complex engineering activities from concept through to delivery, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • You will also manage and develop a high-performing team, resolve key technical challenges, and collaborate with internal and external partners to drive innovation, support strategic planning, and promote expertise across UKAEA.

This role covers three key areas of responsibility:

  • Technical / Professional
    • Act as a subject matter expert in simulation methods and analytical procedures.
    • Lead design, analysis, and qualification of fusion sub-systems while resolving technical issues.
    • Build external collaborations and drive best practice, innovation, and technical outputs.
  • Project Management
    • Manage analysis and simulation activities across projects and work packages.
    • Oversee technical delivery, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and requirements.
    • Develop and execute technical plans, ensuring validation and successful project outcomes.
  • Line Management
    • Manage performance, training, recruitment, and resource planning.
    • Ensure consistent quality, collaboration, and adherence to organisational processes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A relevant engineering Master’s degree or equivalent level gained through experience.
  • Attained chartered status with a relevant professional institution or with qualifications and experience sufficient to attain it within a year of appointment.
  • Expertise in the application of simulation and analysis within at least one area of physics, with broader competence across others, alongside experience working to design-by-analysis standards (e.g. ASME VIII or PD5500) and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Experience defining and planning technical work packages and supervising staff in their execution.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills with facility for persuading and convincing others in technical discussions.

Desirable

  • Experience with fusion-relevant environmental factors such as radiation, vacuum and transient magnetic fields.
