Job Description The Assistant Financial Accountant supports the delivery of UKAEA’s financial accounting activities, including month-end reporting, reconciliations, treasury operations, fixed assets, payroll accounting and statutory returns. The postholder will also contribute to financial reporting for DESNZ, annual accounts and audit activity, while supporting continuous improvement and finance system processes.
What you’ll be doing…
- Prepare and post month-end financial journals.
- Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and associated control records.
- Support the management of fixed assets, including reconciliations, depreciation, disposals and verification.
- Prepare payroll reconciliations, journals, reallocations and assist with year-end payroll activities.
- Administer employee financial schemes, including the CycleScheme programme.
- Assist with financial reporting and information requests for DESNZ, including monthly, interim and year-end submissions.
- Monitor and reconcile the duty deferment account and support import/export financial procedures.
- Process and reconcile intercompany transactions.
- Carry out treasury activities including payments, receipts, funding, bank reconciliations and cash flow reporting.
- Support tax returns, including Construction Industry and VAT Returns.
- Support internal and external audits, finance system testing, and wider monthly, quarterly and annual financial accounts tasks.
Qualifications
- Experience using accounting ERP systems such as U4BW, Oracle, SAP or Sage.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Able to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently using own initiative.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, VLOOKUPs and pivot tables.
- Previous financial accounting experience.
