UK Athletics is seeking a passionate and skilled Applied Biomechanist to join our Performance team. This pivotal role is key to developing and delivering biomechanics services within our World Class Programme (WCP), ultimately driving improved athletic performance on the international stage.

The Role: What You'll Do

  • Working closely with the Lead Biomechanist, Senior Biomechanics Consultant, and a world-class interdisciplinary team, you will be integral to the technical delivery and development of our biomechanics services.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivery & Analysis: Lead on the preparation, setup, and front-line delivery of biomechanics sessions at the Loughborough performance center and support the wider team through data collection and analysis.
  • Technical Expertise: Act as the technical interface for the rollout and ongoing development of the research and innovation center at Loughborough University.
  • Feedback & Communication: Present objective data and information to coaches and athletes in a manner that engages and informs, translating complex data into easily understood terms.
  • Program Development: Play a key role in developing and impacting biomechanics services within the Paralympic and pathway programs.
  • Project Support: Assist in the implementation, delivery, and evaluation of targeted biomechanical and technology projects, with a focus on the LA 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
  • Operational Readiness: Maintain and ensure the operational readiness of all biomechanics equipment, including preventative maintenance schedules and adhering to safety and athlete welfare standards.

What We're Looking For (Knowledge & Skills)

  • Required Experience: Experience in the provision of biomechanics support to elite sport athletes and coaches. Verifiable record of working within an inter-disciplinary team in support of athletes. Experience capturing, analysing, and reporting kinematic and kinetic motion data.
  • Specific Skills: Demonstrated ability to capture and report valid laboratory and field-based biomechanical data to assess injury mechanics and improve performance. An understanding of the needs of elite track and field athletes and coaches in a high-performance environment. Excellent presentation and communication skills that can motivate. Ability to work independently and take accountability for project delivery on time.
  • Education/Qualifications: A Degree and postgraduate qualification in sports science specializing in biomechanics, or equivalent qualification in a related subject.
