Job purpose

To be responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of defined projects within The UK Agri‑Tech Centre’s core programmes, ensuring projects are delivered to agreed scope, time, cost, quality and standards. The Project Manager provides disciplined, execution‑oriented project management aligned to The UK Agri‑Tech Centre’s governance, lifecycle and reporting expectations. Acting under the direction of the Programme Manager or Head of Programmes, the role plans, manages and controls projects and supports the delivery of programme level outcomes and impact.

Team Purpose:

To ensure effective, integrated delivery of The UK Agri‑Tech Centre’s programme portfolio through strong governance, coordinated planning, and oversight of risks, dependencies, outcomes and impact. The team provides structure, assurance and delivery leadership across all The UK Agri‑Tech Centre programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for end‑to‑end delivery of assigned projects, from initiation through to closure.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed plans, schedules and delivery artefacts in line with standards.
  • Managing scope, milestones, budget, risks, issues, dependencies and actions, taking corrective action when needed.
  • Delivering projects in alignment with programme roadmaps, outcomes and priorities.
  • Providing clear, accurate and timely project reporting to the Programme Manager and governance forums.
  • Escalating risks, issues and decisions beyond delegated authority.
  • Coordinating delivery across internal teams, workstreams, partners and suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with project lifecycle, assurance processes and funder requirements.
  • Managing third party suppliers in line with contracts and statements of work.
  • Preparing for assurance, audit and review activities.
  • Leading closure activities, including documentation, handover and lessons learned.

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Deliver projects that contribute to programme‑level strategic outcomes and impact.
  • Align project outputs to programme objectives, funder requirements and organisational priorities.
  • Support the Programme Manager in translating the roadmap into executable plans.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Maintain plans, schedules, RAID logs and delivery documentation.
  • Track and manage resources, milestones, risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Ensure compliance with governance, lifecycle and assurance frameworks.
  • Produce accurate project level reporting and support audits and reviews.
  • Coordinate project delivery activity across internal and external contributors.
  • Manage supplier delivery in line with statements of work.

Leadership / People Responsibilities (if applicable):

  • Provide day to day coordination and direction to matrix teams.
  • Build collaborative relationships across project contributors and stakeholders.
  • Model a delivery focused, solutions‑oriented approach that maintains pace and quality.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Proven experience delivering projects in complex, multistakeholder environments.
  • Formal accreditation in project management (PRINCE2, APM, Agile).
  • Experience with structured project management approaches and lifecycles.
  • Competence in project planning, RAID management, reporting.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience with project budgets and resource forecasts.
  • Experience in public sector, government funded, research or innovation environments.
  • Supplier oversight experience, including contracts and Statements of Work.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.
  • Adaptable, resilient and delivery focused.

Desirable:

  • Awareness of Programme Logic Models.
