The Commercial Delivery Manager is responsible for ensuring high quality, commercially robust delivery of industry funded projects across the organisation. The role oversees end to end scoping, contracting, mobilisation, delivery assurance and close out of commercially funded work. Acting as the central coordination point for commercial opportunities, the postholder translates industry needs into clear, deliverable projects that generate revenue, strengthen relationships, and create value across the agri food and agri tech ecosystem. The role contributes directly to commercial income targets and ensures delivery aligns with organisational capabilities, governance standards, and strategic focus areas. This is a hybrid role which can be based at any of our hubs: Newport (Midlands), Oxford, York, Edinburgh.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and develop commercially funded project opportunities aligned with organisational strengths.
  • Translate partner requirements into scoped proposals with defined outputs, timelines, budgets and delivery approaches.
  • Lead commercial delivery of contracts, ensuring delivery to agreed time, cost and quality.
  • Oversee contract mobilisation, resource planning, risk tracking, governance, documentation, and reporting.
  • Act as the primary customer contact, managing expectations, relationships, change requests, and scope negotiations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across technical specialists, demonstration sites, research partners and external suppliers.
  • Monitor financial performance, margin, revenue flow, forecasting and commercial viability.
  • Maintain clarity on commercial terms, IP considerations, legal requirements and contractual obligations.
  • Work closely with a variety of teams to convert pipeline activity into deliverable work.
  • Identify opportunities to expand project scope, repeat engagements or develop new partnerships.
  • Ensure consistent use of delivery processes, templates and governance frameworks.
  • Align commercial projects with strategic programmes and leverage existing infrastructure such as demonstration farms, trial platforms and innovation support services.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Experience delivering commercial, technical or consultancy projects with external clients or industry partners.
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracting and risk management.
  • Proven ability to scope, plan and deliver complex projects across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing project budgets, timelines, financial performance and stakeholder relationships.
  • Confident communicator with strong negotiation and customer facing capability.
  • Strong organisational, planning and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work across diverse technical and commercial environments.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the agri tech, agriculture, food or rural innovation sectors.
  • Experience working within public private innovation programmes, research collaborations or commercial partnerships.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property, collaborative innovation frameworks and industry funded research models.
