Both sites at UHNM have a pharmacy cancer unit where systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and supportive medicines are dispensed to patients. The County Cancer Unit is an out-patient day unit consisting of 16 chairs and 4 beds. The Cancer Centre at the Royal Stoke site consists of a 40 bedded in-patient ward and a dedicated Emergency Admissions Bay. There is also a 27 chaired out-patient area.

The Pharmacy Cancer team is patient focussed, collaborative and supportive and have an excellent working relationship with other key professionals to maximise efficiency of the services provided.

The pharmacy directorate has modern, purpose-built pharmacy departments on both hospital sites and has close links with Keele University School of Pharmacy.

You will work alongside Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, MMAs, SATOs and a variety of ward staff in providing the pharmacy services for a wide range of SACT and supportive medicines used to treat cancers.

  • Providing comprehensive, professional and high-quality support in the provision of pharmaceutical services to cancer patients
  • Participating in any medicines management and safety/quality initiatives within the Directorate
  • Dispensing and checking clinical trials in accordance with the dispensing protocol under the direction of the Clinical Trials Technician/Pharmacist

You will need excellent organisational, communication and computer skills with a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to work alone and act on own initiative.

You will be supported in your training and further development by the experienced Pharmacy Cancer team. This is a great opportunity to be a part of the delivery of treatments for cancers.

Minimum qualifications include; Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and a National Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) qualification.

Although primarily based at the County Cancer Unit you will work across both sites of the hospital as required by the demands of the service.
