Job overview

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed individual to our team here on Day Surgery Unit Furness General Hospital- the position would be to cover the ward Monday - Friday 08:00 - 16:00

Day Surgery Unit is a busy Unit. We are looking for an individual to provide a warm and welcoming approach to all patients, staff and visitors attending the ward. The ideal candidate will take leadership in the management and organisation of patient records, admissions, transfers and discharges using the appropriate IT systems.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have good communication and IT skills, keeping the IT systems live at all times. You will need to be able to deal with sensitive, confidential information in an appropriate manner. You will need to be able to respond to ward requests from ward staff and deliver to other parts of the hospital

Your main responsibility will be to liaise with senior nurse in charge and provide and welcoming approach to all visitors to the unit. You will need to work with minimal supervision providing administrative support to the ward team.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification

Education

  • Basic numeracy and literacy
  • ECDL or equivalent or willingness to undertake

Experience

  • Have a demonstrable understanding of general office equipment i.e. computer, fax
  • Knowledge of clerical / admin systems and processes
  • Previous clerical experience within health care/office setting

Skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, using both written and verbal means
  • Experience of and ability to influence colleagues
  • Ensures that own actions support equality, diversity, rights and maintain quality
  • IT skills at basic level – wordprocessing, databases, email, internet searching
  • Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues
