Job overview:
- To work as an individual within the Physiotherapy Team in a Specialist MSK role based at Furness General Hospital.
- Looking after colleagues who are referred with a standalone MSK disorder and/or work-related MSK disorder.
- Providing specialist physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice for a range of conditions and advising on workplace adjustments.
- Working as an autonomous practitioner taking responsibility for the management of patients on own caseload without direct supervision.
- Working within the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service to develop proactive measures such as bespoke workplace assessments.
- Maintaining effective communication links with patients and associated professional practitioners regarding patient's condition.
- Participating in planned research and audit as required.
The post will deliver the following:
- Provide ergonomic workplace assessments to reduce the number of referrals to OH&WB.
- Provide a proactive service addressing the needs of our colleagues prior to developing MSK issues leading to periods of absence.
Principal duties:
- To undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessment of physical problems of a complex nature which may also include psychological and social problems.
- To formulate an individual and agreed treatment plan based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practice.
- To demonstrate highly developed physical skills inclusive of dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory skills.
- To provide ergonomic workplace assessments, return to work programmes and recommend ergonomic and practical solutions.
- Contribute to the ongoing Health Promotions that the Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service provides.
Education and qualifications:
- BSc physiotherapy & HCPC registration
- CSP membership
- Evidence of core junior rotations within the NHS
- Involvement in service development through clinical audit, use of outcome measures etc.
- Previous Band 6 MSK experience in the NHS
- Experience of working as a Physiotherapist within Occupational Health
Skills, ability and knowledge:
- Experience in applying the physiotherapy process to include MSK assessment, interpretation of findings, individual care planning, motivation, monitoring and evaluation of specialised MSK treatment.
- Sound knowledge of relevant conditions including specialised knowledge of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
- Ability to work within an MDT to achieve best practice and outcomes for patients.
- Ability to manage change across own service and wider MDT team/services.
- Awareness of current NHS issues.
- Evidence of working across organisational boundaries in health and social care.
