An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Physiotherapy Team at Royal Lancaster Infirmary as a Technical Instructor.
This is a fixed term post for a period of 12 months to cover maternity leave to commence late November 2026. This is for 18.75hrs a week
This role requires a dynamic and capable individual to work alongside physiotherapists to deliver inpatient physiotherapy and rehabilitation to a wide range of patients across an acute hospital site. This post will involve work within the ICU/Surgical team however may also involve the need to work in other clinical areas including both acute and rehab settings, including orthopaedics, acute medicine, and elderly care.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include providing face to face therapy to patients, documentation, and general admin duties.
You will work as part of a clinical team to assist in the assessment and treatment of patients, be involved in MDT working and meetings.
Support and training will be given from an experienced physiotherapy team, to develop your knowledge and skills in specific clinical areas. We have regular in-service training for all therapy technical instructors and actively encourage participation in this.
To join the team you will need relevant experience in health or social care as a therapy or healthcare assistant or an NVQ level 3 in a subject relevant to therapy or rehabilitation (see person specification for details).
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Education and qualifications
- Basic numeracy and literacy qualifications (e.g. GCSE level)
- NVQ level 3 in Health Care or related subject
Experience
- Relevant experience as a physiotherapy assistant sufficient to meet the competencies of a technical instructor
- Experience of Moving and Handling
- Previous experience as a Technical Instructor or similar
- Experience in a relevant field e.g care of the elderly, orthopaedics
Skills, ability and knowledge
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Able to demonstrate empathy, motivate and persuade patients particularly those with impaired cognitive abilities or physical senses.
- Basic IT skills
- Able to work as part of a team
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to recognise the role of the therapy team within the healthcare setting
