Job overview:

Are you passionate to improve a family's neonatal experience and care through education and training by empowering staff development? The Neonatal Education team are looking for an experienced nurse to work as a clinical educator to support the neonatal workforce.

You will provide professional development leadership and support at unit and division level. Act in accordance with the NMC code of Professional Conduct. This role will be responsible for the ongoing development and sustainability of high quality and innovative clinical and educational development for our neonatal services within Surgery and Families Division at both our Royal Lancaster Infirmary (LNU) and Furness General Hospital (SCU) Sites. A base unit of Furness General Hospital or Royal Lancaster Infirmary to be agreed with the successful candidate; however candidates must be aware that regular travel to Furness General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Queen Victoria Centre will be expected.

Main duties of the job:

  • Deliver a programme of education ensuring nursing teams have the skills to function safely, effectively, and efficiently, including supporting any new or extended clinical skills/roles & mandatory medical device training.
  • Ensure all new staff receive an appropriate orientation to the Neonatal services.
  • Contribute to the production of clinical procedure guidelines.
  • Maintain excellent communication with staff within the trust and with external agencies.
  • Liaise with the MDT to ensure the workforce development and education agendas are aligned and follow local and national guidance.
  • Be reliable, flexible, motivated, possess excellent managerial skills, commit to ongoing learning, deliver high quality care and embrace change.
  • Identify one's own learning needs and maintain professional development to meet revalidation requirements.
  • Co‑ordinate the application process for individuals applying for external training courses in liaison with unit managers and Lead Nurse; act as a role model at all times and provide nursing expertise and specialist knowledge within the area of practice.
  • Represent the Neonatal services at ward and divisional meetings as required.
  • Be registered with a professional body and have extensive clinical experience within neonatal nursing.

Person specification:

Education and Qualifications:

  • 1st level registered children's nurse or equivalent registered practitioner
  • Degree education or equivalent experience
  • Recognised teaching / training / assessment / mentoring qualification
  • Evidence of maintaining relevant Continuing Professional Development
  • Working towards a relevant masters degree

Experience:

  • Proven extensive experience in paediatric care setting
  • Facilitating the training and assessment of competence in the clinical area
  • Team working across an MDT
  • Performance Management and development of staff
  • Experience in utilising a variety of presentation styles e.g. PowerPoint

Skills, Ability and Knowledge:

  • Able to demonstrate clinical skills in a training scenario
  • Proven ability to manage resources effectively
  • Highly developed communication skills including liaising effectively with teams/individuals within and outside the organisation
  • Evidence of commitment, motivation and adaptability
  • Proven dexterity in basic and advanced clinical skills
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its application
  • Experience in Clinical audit and the application to practice
  • Certificate in relevant human factors skill training

  • Must have appropriate UK professional registration.
