An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Outpatient Reception and Booking Team based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Lancaster. You will be joining a well established team, in a purpose built facility, receiving and responding to telephone calls and queries from patients, GP’s and Hospital staff in relation to outpatient appointments.

Main duties of the job:

  • You will be responsible for mutually agreeing an appropriate date and time with patients for them to see a clinician in an Outpatient setting.
  • Previous administration and customer service experience would be an advantage but not essential.
  • A full training package will be available to support the start of your Administration career in the NHS.
  • You will be working with highly confidential information.
  • There are part-time and full-time opportunities available.
  • The Reception service is open from 8.30am to 5pm, five days a week.
  • There may be a requirement to work flexibly to support the needs of the service and there is also the opportunity to work occasional weekends.

Working for our organisation:

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification:

  • Education: GCSE or equivalent including Maths and English
  • Keyboard skills/computer literate
  • Customer care experience

Skills, Ability and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of NHS Patient Administration systems
  • Ability to communicate well
  • Ability to work with limited supervision
