An opportunity has arisen to appoint enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive nurses on the redesigned Priority Assessment Unit and Discharge Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. This can be a permanent position or a secondment opportunity for 6-12 months. We are looking for dynamic nurses to work in the unit and be involved with the evolution of the Unit. You must be highly motivated, with a desire to build and enhance a proactive team, as a developing unit the role will expand as the service dictates.

Main duties of the job:

  • Work in support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse.
  • Link in with wards to ensure an early move to the discharge lounge including liaising with discharge teams + REACT.
  • Have the ability to work flexibly and have the confidence to go into all areas to facilitate the moving of patients suitable for the discharge lounge.
  • Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.
  • Ensure patients are cared for with compassion and that patients’ dignity is maintained at all times.
  • Be able to work as an effective team member and demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Be able to deliver high quality patient focused care and be motivated and dedicated to improving your own clinical practice.

Shift patterns: 7am - 8pm / 8am - 8pm this is a 7 day service.

Person specification:

Education and qualifications:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 2 in care related area
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in care related area
  • Care certificate

Experience:

  • Previous experience of working with the general public
  • Worked within an acute clinical area as a Clinical Support Worker
  • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids

Skills, ability and knowledge:

  • Good basic hygiene skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision
  • Advanced clinical skills e.g. venepuncture
  • Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues
