We are seeking compassionate and caring individuals to provide high standards of care for patients on the Lancaster Suite at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The Lancaster Suite is a short‑stay medical ward with 28 patients, specialising in Diabetes/Endocrinology and Gastroenterology.
Main duties of the job:
- Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team to promote patient well‑being.
- Assist Registered Nurses in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, prioritising the workload.
- Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.
- Determine patient comfort by talking, listening and building rapport.
- Assist patients who are unable to feed themselves and complete food charts where required.
- Ensure all care is documented accurately.
- Recognise changes in patient condition.
- Ensure patient dignity and individual needs are met.
- Support nursing staff in providing information and advice on health.
- Act as an effective role model for all ward staff.
- Ensure effective channels are used to canvas patient views and concerns.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and follow infection‑control guidelines.
- Undertake training and practice agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills.
- Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice affecting your role.
- Work as an effective team member and support ongoing team development.
- Carry out and record basic observation/test results and report changes to a Registered Nurse.
Person specification:
- Completion of the NHS Care Certificate or equivalent vocational qualification level 3, or willingness to complete the Care Certificate within the first three months of employment.
- Knowledge of care procedures and related practices.
- Experience with manual handling of patients using lifting aids.
- Experience completing patient care records.
- Experience involved in an improvement project or similar initiative.
- Experience holding responsibility for training or audit activities.
