We are looking for clinically orientated, enthusiastic, highly motivated and adaptable Pharmacists to join our team. Positions include permanent Band 6 rotational pharmacist, full time and part time, at our Royal Lancaster Infirmary site. Applications are welcomed from trainee pharmacists due to register shortly and pharmacists with experience in other disciplines within pharmacy, with training to support moving sector provided.

The successful candidate will join our ward‑based clinical team and have opportunities to develop clinical skills through carefully managed rotations in different areas of inpatient specialities including:

  • Cardiology
  • Respiratory
  • Orthopaedics
  • Paediatrics
  • General surgery
  • Acute medicine

As well as department‑based specialist roles such as:

  • Aseptic
  • Oncology
  • Homecare
  • Clinical trials

We encourage all our junior pharmacists to undertake a clinical diploma and will support them with this.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Using our trust‑wide Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration tool to review medicines reconciliations, optimise patients' medications and verify discharge prescriptions.
  • Being the responsible pharmacist in our automated dispensary and participating in the weekend rota.

At this time, Band 6 pharmacists are not required to take part in the on‑call rota.

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain
  • Fulfilment of mandatory Continuous Professional Development requirements
  • Willingness to study towards a diploma in Clinical Pharmacy

Experience:

  • Experience delivering education and training
  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting

Skills, ability and knowledge:

  • Working with other professional groups
  • Good verbal communication and counselling skills, especially with ill patients and relatives at ward level
  • Clinical knowledge of current therapeutics and pharmacy practice
  • Information technology skills and good written communication skills
  • Accuracy, analytical skills
  • Decision making and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Interpersonal skills for dealing with stressful situations involving patients, e.g. death of a patient or grieving relative – during ward visits or formal rounds
