We are looking for a visible, compassionate and dynamic Matron to join our leadership team within the Community Cancer, Diagnostics and End of Life Care Division. This is a unique opportunity to lead high-impact services that play a vital role in patient pathways across the Morecambe Bay system.

You will lead and support a varied and rewarding directorate, including:

  • Outpatients services
  • Bladder and Bowel service

These services span the Morecambe Bay footprint.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is an experienced senior nurse leader (Matron or equivalent)

Main duties of the job

Provides clinical and operational leadership for a number of trust-delivered services. Ensures safe and effective care/service delivery within these services by leading on safeguarding, infection prevention, patient flow, patient safety and governance. Supports own teams to deliver high standards of care/service offering highly specialist advice and support to the wider MDT both within and external to the organisation. Advocates for patients/service users and their experience of services, ensuring that our services support patients’ needs and expectations and reduce health inequalities. Instigates service reviews, including policy development/review, in line with latest evidence base and guidelines. Completes workforce service reviews in own areas ensuring establishment and deployment of staff meet the current needs of the service. Leads on an area of focus for clinical care delivery within the division supporting the senior leadership team.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community healthcare premises. FGH and the RLI provide a range of general hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of general hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay. Our community service for adults is provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP practices, and community hospitals.

What You’ll Do As Matron, you will:

  • Provide strong, visible clinical leadership across services

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary and cross-organisational partners to improve pathways and outcomes

Working Across the Bay

This is a cross-bay leadership role, requiring you to:

  • Work across Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital, and Westmorland General Hospital
  • Engage with community teams and services across Morecambe Bay
  • Travel between sites to maintain a strong and visible leadership presence
