Are you passionate about creating a culture of continuous learning and leadership development? We’re looking for a dynamic Learning and Development Manager to join our Colleague Experience team. This is a strategic and operational role, responsible for shaping and delivering high-impact learning programmes that support our Trust’s vision, values, and people strategy. You’ll lead a team of L&D Facilitators and work collaboratively across People Services and with external partners to ensure our colleagues have access to inclusive, engaging, and effective development opportunities. We are happy to talk flexible working patterns and to consider part time working. Please note however there is a requirement to be able to travel and attend any of our UHMBT sites on a weekly basis as much of our delivery to teams is in person.
Main duties of the job:
- Lead the design, delivery, and evaluation of leadership and development programmes.
- Provide strategic oversight and coaching to L&D Facilitators.
- Collaborate with OD, Inclusion, and People Services to foster a psychologically safe and inclusive culture.
- Commission and manage external training providers.
- Use data and insights to evaluate programme effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Represent the Colleague Experience team in cross-functional groups and external partnerships.
- Ensure alignment with UHMBT’s People Strategy and values.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in designing and delivering leadership development programmes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, including at Executive level.
- Expertise in learning and development strategy, programme evaluation, and education governance.
- Ability to lead and inspire a team in a collaborative and inclusive environment, working across UHMBT sites (Barrow, Lancaster and Kendal).
- CIPD qualification or equivalent professional development is desirable.
We operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
